Central Surrey Health continues to break
new ground with innovative website

Central Surrey Health is well known in the healthcare sector for being a leader, not a follower. Created in 2006, it was the first social enterprise to come out of the NHS and now provides therapy and community nursing services to 280,000 residents of central Surrey.

Its ethos is to ‘combine the values and principles of the NHS with the ‘can do’ culture of a successfully run business and its new website which launched on Monday 18 April is a perfect example of how they are doing this.

With sweeping changes being made to primary care trusts in the UK, the responsibility for healthcare provision at a local level now falls squarely on the shoulders of GPs. Accordingly, Central Surrey Health’s new website accommodates three main stakeholder groups: GPs, patients and staff. Specific sections have been created to allow each group to interact directly through the site, for example, parents will be able to log permission forms online to allow their children to receive certain treatments.

Central Surrey Health’s MDs honoured by HM The Queen

Jo Pritchard and Tricia McGregor, joint Managing Directors of leading community healthcare provider Central Surrey Health have each been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s birthday Honours list 2011. Jo and Tricia were awarded their MBEs for services to social enterprise.

Jo Pritchard and Tricia McGregor jointly set up Central Surrey Health in 2006. Central Surrey Health provides therapy and community nursing services to the population of central Surrey and was the first social enterprise to come out of the NHS. Central Surrey Health is employee-owned, and run on similar lines to the John Lewis Partnership but is not for profit. Every co-owner is involved in running the business – giving them the power to improve how their services are delivered.

Tricia McGregor commented “Jo and I are delighted to receive such a prestigious honour and would like to dedicate our MBEs to every co-owner at Central Surrey Health. We’ve worked in the health sector for over 25 years and the last 5 years setting up Central Surrey Health have been the greatest challenge. It’s been an inspirational job and definitely the best one we have ever had. It is great to work with so many people who share your values and are committed to making a difference to patients. It is their passion for patient care which has enabled us to transform community health services; improving efficiency and driving up
quality. These MBE’s are as much for them as for us and we just wanted to take this opportunity to thank them all for their outstanding work.”

Ian Church, Chairman for Central Surrey Health commented “This is absolutely brilliant news; I am extremely pleased for Jo and Tricia. This is a tremendous honour and one which is well deserved. The level of commitment they have shown to driving up standards in patient care has been outstanding. I am equally delighted for Central Surrey Health as these awards are also a reflection of what has been achieved by every co-owner. Congratulations to them all.”
