SBHA Celebrates 45th Anniversary

With 45 years of delivering quality affordable homes in west London, Shepherds Bush Housing Association (SBHA) has a very proud history. It was formed in 1968 by members of the Church of St Stephen and St Thomas in Shepherds Bush who were deeply concerned about the lack of good quality affordable housing locally. SBHA is the parent organisation of Shepherds Bush Housing Group (SBHG).

SBHA own and manage more than 5,000 homes across a variety of tenures and believe that affordable homes of quality are the foundation of our society. Responsible for regenerating neighbourhoods, helping residents to live independently, running a well-being service, providing a furniture re-use service and helping people onto the property ladder through low cost home ownership.

An unusual approach to employee motivation

It’s great to find an employer who invests in staff satisfaction as much as customer satisfaction. Shepherds Bush Housing Group, a housing association in west London with 43 years experience of delivering quality affordable homes, has found that turning its annual conference into a mass participation event reaps rewards in terms of employee motivation. As well as communicating organisational plans and objectives for the year ahead, employers feel that it is just as important to reflect on the great team work that takes place on a daily basis at SBHG.

Accordingly, Wonderberry was asked to design, plan and execute a day to remember….

…Cue ‘The Big Step Up’ – a Strictly Come Dancing style workshop where everyone was given the chance to learn a routine; either salsa, flamenco, disco, country or street. After an hour’s professional instruction the groups performed to each other amidst much hilarity!

The conference was rounded off by a ‘mass group dance-off’ and we were thrilled to note that of the 200 attendees, only a couple of people sadly had to bow out due to physical ill-health – but more than made up for it by cheering on from the sidelines… The atmosphere was electric and the success of the day far exceeded the original hopes of the management team.

We’re planning something even bigger and better for Shepherds Bush Housing Group for this year – an alternative school sports day – we’ll update you as plans progress…
